Bryant, Lakers Takeit to Houston in
Game 2

Tue, May 11, 1999
INGLEWOOD (Tuesday, May 11, 1999) – Kobe
Bryant had his way with Scottie Pippen and his
teammate Shaquille O’Neal had his way with Hakeem
Olajuwon Tuesday night, and consequently the Lakers had
their way with the Houston Rockets, who didn’t put up
much of a fight in losing 110-98. The win gives the Lakers
a 2-0 lead in the best-of-5 playoff series, which shifts to
Houston for Games 3 and 4.

Bryant scored 19 points and held Pippen without a field
goal in 7 attempts, and O’Neal scored 28 points and held
Olajuwon to just 8 points in the win.

Game 3 is Thursday night in Houston.

Even 3-point shooting, usually the province of the Rockets,
belonged to the Lakers. Los Angeles hit 10 of 18
3-pointers and a flurry of long-range baskets by the
Rockets got them no closer than nine points in the second
quarter. The Rockets hit 11 3-pointers, but shot only 40
percent from the floor for the game.

The Lakers still couldn't stop Charles Barkley, one-third of
Houston's trio of future Hall of Famers, who had 19 points
and 13 rebounds. The scoring load fell to Houston's bench.
Sam Mack led the Rockets with 20 points and Brent Price
added 18.
