Kobe and Lakers Drop Game 1 to
Spurs

David Robinson scored
15 points and Tim Duncan
poured in 25 as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Los
Angeles Lakers 87-81 in Game 1 of their Western
Conference semifinal on Monday night.

LA came within 67-62 with 11 minutes left to play on Sean
Rooks' jumper, but they wouldn't get closer than five.

Robinson and Duncan sparked a 10-2 San Antonio run that
gave the Spurs a 79-64 lead with 5:15 left, but the Lakers
went on a run of their own, cutting the lead to 82-77 with
46 seconds left.

Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and Glen Rice each
scored 21 points for the Lakers. O'Neal added 15
rebounds, while Bryant had three steals and six assists.

Game 2 is Wednesday night in San Antonio.

Robinson finished with eight rebounds. Both he and O'Neal
were 9-for-14 from the foul line.

O'Neal was averaging a league-high 29.5 points in the
playoffs entering Monday night's contest.
