hu, May 27, 1999
LOS ANGELES (SCN Thursday, May 27,
1999) - Oh what a difference a day makes.

The Los Angles Lakers reportedly had been contemplating
a coaching change ever since Sunday's humiliating sweep
from the Western Conference playoffs, but now the tide
seems to be turning, as the Los Angeles Times reported
that Kobe Bryant has given Kurt Rambis a rousing
endorsement.

The Los Angeles Times, who quoted several unidentified
sources close to the situation, published in Thursday's
edition that the Lakers are now leaning strongly towards
retaining Rambis after vice president Jerry West and
general manager Mitch Kupchak surveyed key Laker
players.

One of those players was Bryant, who along with many
teammates, said he would fully support Rambis' return.

"The feeling is this team has to grow together, and you
don't do that by firing the coach after such a traumatic
season," one Times source said.

Team Spokesman John Black said the team had no
comment on the Times report.

"We are not ready to discuss that publicly yet," Black
said.
